Sustainability Policy

At Northwood Hospitality we are committed to having a robust Corporate Responsibility program that incorporates Responsible Business strategies into our business to increase both the sustainability and the value of our portfolio.
In delivering our commitment to responsible business, Northwood Hospitality will work to:
- Reduce water consumption through efficiency and conservation practices, including high-efficiency faucets, high-efficiency shower heads, low-flow or high-efficiency toilets
- Reduce energy consumption through efficiency programs, including LED lightbulbs, door sensors, key access light controls in guestrooms, lowering HVAC settings
- Implement waste and plastic reduction efforts, including keyless mobile entry, bulk amenities in guestrooms, recycling programs, soap recycling, and boxed or canned water
- Collect energy/water/waste data to manage and reduce usage
- Earn EnergyStar certifications across the portfolio
- Implement efficient landscaping water management
- Employ water-efficient practices in laundry
- Ensure efficient pool maintenance
- Provide linen and terry reuse programs
- Install electric car charging stations and water bottle refilling stations
- Participate in and support community initiatives that foster social and economic development
- Provide relevant information and accommodations to persons with special needs including diet, environmental sensitivities, and mobility
- Comply with all applicable environmental regulations
- Engage guests in our sustainability efforts through education and awareness
- Train all staff on sustainability practices as relevant to their role
- Train all staff on combatting human trafficking
- Train all staff on diversity, equity and inclusion
- Support staff with health and well-being, and a charitable program to provide financial assistance to employees in need
- Foster growth and development of staff through our Northwood Hospitality University leadership development program
Northwood Hospitality has earned Energy Star certifications more than 30 times since 2012. Our Aloft Charlotte Ballantyne is a LEED Certified Hotel. In 2025, all NWH properties will participate in the Green Key Eco-Rating Program from Green Key Global.
Northwood Hospitality is a member of the American Hotel and Lodging Association’s Sustainability Committee, incorporating the group’s industry-leading sustainability practices into portfolio operations and management practices. NWH is also an endorser of the AHLA Responsible Stay initiative, which focuses on waste reduction, water conservation, improved energy efficiency and responsible sourcing across the hotel industry to provide employees, guests, and communities a responsible stay.
Northwood Hospitality’s policy is reviewed every 12 months by leaders at our Home Office in partnership with the Green Team members across the properties.
