SUSTAINABILITY HIGHLIGHT: CHEECA LODGE & SPAIslamorada, FL A pool with palm trees and a deck AI-generated content may be incorrect. A fish and fishing rod AI-generated content may be incorrect. The iconic lagoon at Cheeca uses a well to maintain needed water levels. The large lagoon uses a lot of water and experiences a lot of water loss due to evaporation in the tropical heat. Our team implemented a sustainable solution to help conserve water and save money and city resources. Being located at sea level, the well is deep enough to reach brackish water -naturally low in salt –which helps protect surrounding plant life. We also began collecting rainwater to redirect to the lagoon when there is an abundance to reduce waste and conserve resources. To maintain the crystal-clear blue water, the natural water is filtered through sand and tinted naturally to achieve its signature hue without harming the environment. Since this natural water does not contain chemicals that prevent algae or bacteria growth, a controlled amount of chlorine is injected to keep it clean. This sustainable system not only preserves our tropical ecosystem, but also significantly reduces the use of city water which helps us not only save money but also water, a precious resource especially in the Florida Keys. This initiative helps us to care for the environment and maintain the beauty of our renowned lagoon. 14 | NORTHWOOD HOSPITALITY RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS REPORT 2025 OUR PEOPLE A swimming pool in a building Description automatically generated EMPLOYEES NorthwoodHospitality’s employees are the bedrock of our culture and drive success through their ability to thrive, innovate, and flourish.
